Bellarmine Preparatory High School Spends Spring Break in San Rafael Racana, Guatemala

Bellarmine Prep student volunteer Liana Williams, Class of 2025, shares her reflections and stories from the ‘Courts for Kids’ trip to Guatemala.

Twenty-three Bellarmine Prep students and two chaperones spent their spring break in San Rafael Racana, Guatemala, where they helped build a new sports court and shared a week of cultural exchange. Between construction shifts, they explored local markets and temples, played soccer with children, and learned about Guatemalan traditions, food, and daily life. Despite the language barrier, laughter, games, and shared meals created deep bonds.

When the court was completed, the town held a celebration with music, dance, and gratitude. Volunteers left with a new understanding of community, generosity, and presence—recognizing that true wealth lies not in possessions, but in kindness, connection, and the willingness to greet every person as family.
